Earlier this year, we ran an AMA on Reddit across r/doncaster and r/sheffield - answering everything from what to order if you have never tried Thai food to whether we stock Chang beer. The questions were honest, curious and exactly the kind of thing people want to know before visiting any restaurant for the first time.

Reddit replies are short by nature. Here we answer those same questions properly - with the kitchen detail and over 10 years of cooking Thai food across South Yorkshire behind each one.

What Should I Order If I Have Never Had Thai Food?

This was the most popular question in the thread. Pad Thai is the starting point almost every time - mild, light and built around rice noodles with a tamarind-based sauce. Familiar enough that nothing feels like a leap, but unmistakably Thai. At our restaurant on Copley Road in Doncaster, it comes with a condiments caddy so you can dial up the lime, chilli flakes or fish sauce at your own pace.

If noodles are not your thing, a green curry with jasmine rice is gentle enough for a first visit but carries proper depth from the coconut milk and Thai basil.

What Do You Recommend for an Authentic Thai Experience?

Someone on the thread asked what to order for a genuinely authentic meal - not a safe bet, but the real thing. Our answer starts with the Esan sausage - a northeastern Thai dish you rarely find done properly outside of Thailand. For mains, the spicy noodle Pad Kee Mao, Tom Yum soup or Moo Krob Pad Kra Pao - crispy belly pork stir fried with Thai basil - are dishes that reflect how people actually eat in Thailand.

Our Head Chef Rin has cooked Thai food across South Yorkshire for over a decade, starting at Thai Garden Cafe in Manvers before opening Charm Thai Cafe on Copley Road. Every curry paste is imported from Thailand - the same Mae Ploy pastes used in Bangkok kitchens. The Pad Thai sauce is mixed fresh per order. That is what authentic Thai food means in practice - not a marketing claim, but a specific way of sourcing and cooking.

What Are the Most Popular Dishes?

Green curry, Massaman curry, Moo Krob Pad Kra Pao and Pad Prik stir fries keep coming out of the kitchen all evening. Massaman is the gentler, nuttier option with potato and peanut. And the Moo Krob Kra Pao is as close to a signature dish as we have - crispy belly pork with holy basil, served with jasmine rice and a fried egg on top.

What often surprises people is the Dark Noodle Soup - a slow-cooked beef broth noodle bowl that our Head Chef Rin developed herself, deep and aromatic and unlike anything else on a Thai menu in Doncaster. It was featured on BBC Radio Sheffield's "Guess the Soup" segment earlier this year. If you like ramen or pho, this is the dish to try.

Can Vegetarians and Vegans Eat Well Here?

One of the first questions in the thread was about vegetarian options, and it is something we hear daily. The short answer is yes - and not just as afterthoughts. Vegetable Pad Thai, tofu green curry and spring rolls are all on the menu as standard. For vegan diners, Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are made without egg entirely, and all curries use coconut milk which is naturally vegan.

What matters more than having options listed is that any dish on the menu can be adapted. Our chef adjusts at the wok - swap chicken for tofu, hold the egg, switch to vegan oyster sauce made from mushrooms. Just mention your dietary needs when you order and Rin takes it from there. You can see the full range of what is available on our Thai restaurant menu with dietary options clearly marked.

Can I Bring My Own Drinks?

This came up because someone asked whether we stock Chang beer. We are BYO - bring your own wine, beer or spirits and there is no corkage charge at all. Thai beers like Chang and Leo are available from nearby shops, so you can pair an ice-cold Chang with your green curry for a fraction of what a licensed restaurant would charge.

There is no service charge either - the menu price is what you pay. That applies to large parties, private bookings and race-day groups, not just quiet midweek tables. Between BYO and no extras on the bill, a meal for two at our restaurant in Doncaster works out at genuinely good value.

Where Are You and How Do I Get There?

The question was phrased more like "Whereabouts in Donny are you?" - which is fair, since Copley Road is not the town centre high street. We are at 67 Copley Road, DN1 2QP - about a five minute walk from the Wool Market and Frenchgate. There is free street parking right outside, and the Trafford Way car park is a short walk if the road is full.

We are open Monday and Wednesday through Saturday, 12 noon to 9pm. Closed Tuesday and Sunday. We deliver within eight miles for a flat two pounds, and take card payments over the phone for collection and delivery - a secure payment link sent by text.
