The Real Thing

Pad Thai Done Properly

Pad Thai is one of Thailand's most recognisable dishes - and one of the most often let down by restaurants that take shortcuts. At Charm Thai Cafe in Doncaster, Rin mixes her Pad Thai sauce fresh per order. Not pre-made in bulk, not from a bottle - freshly balanced in the wok every time.

Rice noodles, egg, bean sprouts, spring onion and your choice of protein. Served with a traditional condiments caddy so you can season to your own taste - the way it's done in Thailand. If you're looking for authentic Thai food in Doncaster, Rin's Pad Thai is a good place to start.

  • Pad Thai sauce mixed fresh per order
  • Tiger Tiger rice noodles - naturally gluten free
  • Choice of chicken, prawn, beef, pork, tofu or veg
  • Vegan version available - egg omitted entirely

The Thai Way

The Condiments Caddy

In Thailand, Pad Thai is always served with a condiments caddy on the side. You season the dish yourself - more chilli, more lime, more sweetness, more salt. It's how the dish is meant to be eaten, and it's how Rin serves it here in Doncaster.

๐ŸŒถ Dried Chilli Flakes
For heat - add as much or as little as you like
๐Ÿš White Sugar
Balances the sourness - a small pinch goes a long way
๐ŸŸ Fish Sauce
For saltiness and depth - the backbone of Thai cooking
๐Ÿซ™ Chilli Vinegar
Adds brightness and tang without extra heat

Common Questions

Pad Thai Questions

What is the difference between Pad Thai and Pad See Eew?
Both are stir-fried noodle dishes but they're quite different. Pad Thai uses thin 5mm rice noodles in a tamarind-based sauce - tangy, slightly sweet, with a texture that picks up the sauce well. Pad See Eew uses wide 10mm flat rice noodles in a darker soy-based sauce with a slight char from the wok. Pad Thai is the more famous abroad; Pad See Eew is arguably more popular in Thailand itself.
Can I have my Pad Thai made less spicy or extra spicy?
Yes. Pad Thai is naturally on the milder, sweeter end of Thai cooking, so it's a good choice if you prefer less heat. We can also add fresh chilli if you'd like more kick, or serve it with the chilli flakes on the side so you can adjust to taste. The chilli ratings across our menu show how the dish is traditionally cooked in Thailand - we dial it back by default so everyone can enjoy it. Just mention your preference when you order.
Is your Pad Thai sauce homemade?
Yes - the Pad Thai sauce is mixed fresh per order, not pre-bottled. Tamarind, palm sugar, soy and fish sauce balanced in the wok as Rin cooks. The crushed peanuts on top are also added fresh, not pre-mixed into the dish.
Do you do vegan Pad Thai?
Yes. Vegan Pad Thai omits the egg entirely - we do not use a substitute, just leave it out. The tamarind sauce is naturally vegan (fish sauce swapped for soy), and you get the same rice noodles, beansprouts and crushed peanuts. Choose tofu or extra vegetables as the protein.
