Mild, Golden and Comforting
What Makes Yellow Curry Different
Thai Yellow Curry (Gaeng Luang) is the gentlest member of the Thai curry family. Where green and red curries lean on fresh or dried chilli for their character, yellow curry is built around turmeric and warm dried spice - closer in feel to a South Asian curry than the sharper, herb-forward curries elsewhere on the menu. It's often the curry we suggest first to anyone who wants real flavour without much heat at all.
At Charm Thai Cafe on Copley Road, Rin uses authentic Thai yellow curry paste imported directly from Thailand - the same Mae Ploy paste used in Bangkok kitchens. The paste is cooked through in coconut milk to build a golden, mellow sauce around potato, cauliflower and onion, then finished with your choice of protein. Every curry is cooked to order.

The Flavour Profile
What Yellow Curry Tastes Like
Yellow curry is mellow, mildly sweet and gently spiced. Turmeric gives the sauce its golden colour and a warm, earthy note rather than any real heat. The coconut milk keeps it rich and smooth, while the potato makes it a genuinely filling curry. It's a good choice at the table if someone wants full flavour without competing with a spicier dish.
All Six Curries
Yellow Curry vs the Other Curries
All six Thai curries are on the menu at Charm Thai Cafe. Here's how yellow curry sits alongside them. Full details on the Thai curry page.
Yellow Curry
Gentle and mildly spiced with turmeric and dried spices. A warmer, more approachable character - good for first-timers.
Massaman Curry
Rich, mild and nutty. Warm spice from cinnamon and cardamom. Potatoes and roasted peanuts make it the most filling curry on the menu.
Panang Curry
Thick, creamy and intensely flavoured with ground peanuts in the paste. Lower sauce volume than yellow curry, more of a coating.
Green Curry
Herbal, fragrant coconut broth. Fresh green chilli heat with lemongrass and kaffir lime. Sharper and brighter than yellow curry.
Red Curry
Deeper and earthier than green, with dried red chilli. Full coconut milk body and a slightly more robust heat.
Jungle Curry
No coconut milk - the only one without it. Hot, clear broth with fresh herbs. The boldest on the menu by some distance.
