The Real Thing

What Makes Rin's Green Curry Different

Thai green curry is one of the most recognisable dishes in Thai cooking - and one of the easiest to get wrong. At Charm Thai Cafe in Doncaster, Rin uses authentic Thai green curry paste imported directly from Thailand - the same paste used in Bangkok kitchens - and finishes every curry in the wok per order.

The paste goes into hot oil first to bloom the aromatics, then coconut milk is added gradually to build the broth. Kaffir lime leaves, Thai basil and vegetables cook through in the sauce. Rin tastes and adjusts the balance as it cooks. No shortcuts, no pre-mixed batches sitting in a pot. If you're looking for authentic Thai food in Doncaster, the green curry is a good place to start.

  • Authentic Thai green curry paste imported from Thailand
  • Coconut milk broth built per order in the wok
  • Kaffir lime leaves and Thai basil cooked into the sauce
  • Choice of chicken, prawn, beef, pork or tofu
  • Vegan curry available - ask when you order
  • Served with jasmine rice

The Flavour Profile

What Green Curry Tastes Like

Green curry has a fragrant, herbal heat - lighter and fresher than red or massaman, with the grassiness of green chilli and lemongrass coming through the coconut milk. It sits in the medium heat range: warming but not punishing, with a broth that rewards mopping up with jasmine rice.

🌿 Herbal Freshness
Green chilli, lemongrass and galangal give a bright, fragrant quality you don't get in red or yellow curry
πŸ₯₯ Creamy Coconut
Full-fat coconut milk rounds the heat and gives the broth its characteristic richness and body
πŸƒ Kaffir Lime
The leaves add a citrus perfume that's distinctly Thai - not limey in a fruit sense, more aromatic than sharp

Your Options

Choose Your Protein

All versions served with jasmine rice and cooked in the same fragrant coconut broth. Halal meat options available - ask when you order. Pork is not halal.

πŸ—

Chicken Green Curry

The classic pairing. Tender chicken absorbs the coconut broth particularly well - a popular choice for good reason.

🍀

Prawn Green Curry

Juicy prawns in green curry broth - the sweetness of prawn works nicely against the herbal heat of the paste.

πŸ₯©

Beef Green Curry

Rich and satisfying - beef holds up well against the bold aromatics of green curry paste.

🐷

Pork Green Curry

A popular choice in Thailand itself. Good balance of fat and lean in a fragrant coconut broth.

🌱

Tofu or Veg

Tofu or a mix of vegetables in coconut broth. Ask about a vegan curry paste if required.

All Six Curries

Green Curry vs the Others

All six Thai curries are on the menu at Charm Thai Cafe. Here's how green curry sits alongside them. Full details on the Thai curry page.

Green Curry

Herbal, fragrant coconut broth. Fresh green chilli heat with lemongrass and kaffir lime running through it.

🌢🌢 Medium heat

Red Curry

Deeper and earthier than green, with dried red chilli. Full coconut milk body, slightly more robust flavour.

🌢🌢 Medium heat

Yellow Curry

The mildest of the three chilli-based curries. Turmeric and dried spices give it a warmer, gentler character.

🌢 Mild

Panang Curry

Rich and thick, with ground peanuts in the paste. Lower coconut milk ratio means a more intense, dry-style sauce.

🌢 Mild to medium

Massaman Curry

The gentlest curry on the menu. Sweet, nutty, almost no heat - influenced by Persian and Indian spice routes.

🌢 Very mild

Jungle Curry

No coconut milk - the only one on our menu without it. Hot, clear broth with fresh herbs. The boldest on the menu.

🌢🌢🌢 Hot

Common Questions

Green Curry Questions

How hot is a Thai green curry?
Thai green curry sits in the medium heat range - it has a herbal, fragrant heat from fresh green chillies in the paste rather than a blunt blow of dried chilli. The coconut milk softens the heat considerably. At Charm Thai Cafe we serve it at a balanced level by default - mention when you order if you'd prefer more or less heat.
Is Thai green curry vegan?
The green curry paste contains shrimp paste, so it is not vegan. We do offer a fully vegan Thai curry - ask when you order and Rin will use a suitable paste. Tofu or vegetables as the protein. The coconut milk itself is naturally vegan.
What protein can I have in my green curry?
Chicken, prawn, beef, pork or tofu. Chicken is the most traditional pairing for green curry and probably the most popular at Charm Thai Cafe. If you have a halal requirement, please ask - we offer halal meat options. Pork is not halal.
Do you make your green curry paste in-house?
No - we use authentic Thai green curry paste imported directly from Thailand, the same paste used in Bangkok kitchens. Clean ingredient list: green chillies, lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime, garlic, shrimp paste and salt. No thickeners or modified starches. Rin balances and finishes every curry in the wok per order.
What does green curry come with?
Green curry is served with jasmine rice. It also pairs well with a roti bread if you want something to mop up the sauce. The curry itself has kaffir lime leaves, Thai basil and fresh vegetables cooked in the coconut broth.
Can I order green curry for delivery in Doncaster?
Yes - we deliver across Doncaster for Β£2, up to 8 miles. Call 01302 210408 to order and pay by card over the phone. Collection is also available from 67 Copley Road, DN1 2QP. Open Monday and Wednesday to Saturday, 12pm to 9pm.
