Thai Delivery in Adwick-le-Street
A run out on the old Great North Road
Adwick-le-Street sits about five miles north west of our kitchen on Copley Road, following the old Great North Road corridor out of town. The drive takes around twelve to fifteen minutes - up through Bentley, on past the racecourse, and out to the village proper. Whether the order is coming from the older part of the village around Village Street and Church Lane near St Lawrence's, the streets running off the Adwick Lane junction, or the homes spread between Adwick and the Woodlands model village to the north, we cover the whole patch.
Adwick is the heart of a ward that runs across to Carcroft, Skellow, Highfields and Woodlands - around 16,000 people across the four villages together. We have run orders to homes near the Mount Pleasant area, the streets behind the Roman Ridge ridge line, the houses on the Adwick Park edge, and across into Woodlands' Arts and Crafts terraces. No minimum order, and we will get a hot meal to you whether it is for one or for a family.

The shape of Adwick-le-Street
Adwick-le-Street is one of the older settlements around Doncaster. The village sits very close to the line of the Roman road that ran north out of Danum, the Roman settlement at Doncaster, and the Norman tower of St Lawrence's Church on Village Street is the most obvious surviving piece of the medieval village. The church is also where the Washington family tomb sits - George Washington's ancestors lived at Adwick Hall from the 1560s through to the 1730s, and the family's stars and stripes arms are carved into their memorial inside the church.
The twentieth century changed Adwick more than the previous thousand years. The opening of the Brodsworth Colliery in 1907 brought a wave of new housing, and the neighbouring Woodlands model village was laid out by Percy Houfton in Arts and Crafts style for the miners. An Anglo-Saxon cemetery was unearthed just to the north of the village in 2007, dating roughly to 660 to 880 AD, including a Viking-period female burial with Scandinavian grave goods. There is a lot of history layered into a relatively small area.
If you are over in Bentley on the route out to us, or down in Cusworth on the next ridge across, or back toward town at Wheatley, we have dedicated pages for those too.
