Bawtry is around nine to ten miles from our kitchen on Copley Road. That is further than our standard delivery footprint allows for door-to-door service, and we never wanted to be the restaurant that hands over a delivery box twenty-five minutes after it left the wok. So we run it differently for Bawtry.

You phone us, tell us what you would like and roughly when you can be in the car. We give you a meeting time and a Cantley meeting point. The food is cooked to order in those ten to fifteen minutes between the call and you leaving the house, our driver takes the box down to the agreed Cantley location, and you arrive at the meeting point around the same time. Hot food, freshly cooked, with a short drive for you instead of a long one.

The reason we do not run standard door delivery to Bawtry is honesty about what would happen to the food. Driving from Copley Road to a Bawtry doorstep takes the better part of twenty-five minutes - twice the time we spend on a Cantley or Bessacarr delivery. The food is in a container the whole time. Even with insulated bags, the rice continues to steam, the curry sits, the Pad Thai softens. By the time it arrives, it is no longer at its best.

The halfway-meet halves that. The food is in transit for about ten minutes, the same as it would be for any of our standard delivery patches. You handle the rest of the journey, but you are not eating it from the box yet - it goes in the car, lid still warm, and you have it home five or ten minutes later. The difference shows in the rice alone.

Bawtry is a market town on the Nottinghamshire border, the southernmost edge of the Doncaster postcode area. The town has its own restaurant scene around the market square, the Crown area and along High Street, with the A638 - the old Great North Road - running through it.

It is a town that knows good food. We thought about it carefully before extending out here, because anyone in Bawtry could comfortably drive into Doncaster for dinner, and many do. The halfway-meet is for the evenings when you do not feel like the whole trip - when you want hot Thai food at home, eaten when you like, no reservation pressure.
