1. Getting Here

How to get to us from Wickersley

Wickersley sits about eleven miles south of our kitchen on Copley Road. The cleanest route in is the M18 northbound from junction 1 up to junction 4, then a few minutes through into Doncaster town centre via the A630. The drive takes around twenty-two to twenty-eight minutes depending on time of day - the motorway run is steady and the only real bottleneck is the A630 approach during school-run hours. Trafford Way multi-storey is the closest car park to us, two minutes walk from the front door on Copley Road.

Whether you set off from the streets around the village centre and St Alban's Church, the homes on Bawtry Road heading toward the dining strip, the residential roads off Morthen Road toward Wickersley Wood, or the newer estates spreading toward Bramley and the M18 junction itself, the motorway is the obvious north-south route. From the Wickersley Tarn and cricket club side of the village, dropping onto the M18 via Bawtry Road takes only a few minutes more than the village-centre roads. Once you are on the motorway it is a clean run almost to our door.

Public transport is a less natural fit from Wickersley to central Doncaster in the evening - most guests drive. The drive home in the evening is quieter still since the motorway has emptied out by ten when we close.

2. About the Restaurant

What kind of Thai restaurant Charm Thai Cafe actually is

Charm Thai Cafe is a small specialist Thai restaurant in the centre of Doncaster - five tables in a single room, chalkboard specials, and Rin running the kitchen herself or alongside one or two team members. The brand carries the word cafe in the name because of how the room sits, but what comes out of the kitchen is restaurant cooking - dishes built to order, sauces balanced in the wok, every plate finished before it leaves.

Rin has cooked Thai food professionally across South Yorkshire for over ten years before opening here. She spent the longest stretch at Thai Garden Cafe in Manvers, then briefly at Khao Niew in Barnsley and Happy Cha Bubble Tea. The reason the dining room is small by design is that small lets her keep her hand on every dish. Five tables is what one chef can cook for properly across a full evening service.

The economics also work for guests. There is no service charge added to the bill, the bring-your-own policy carries no corkage fee, and the price on the menu is the price you pay. For diners driving over twenty minutes for dinner, that pricing transparency tends to matter.

4. About the Town

About Wickersley and the surrounding dining scene

Wickersley is a sizeable village just east of Rotherham, on the Bawtry Road corridor heading toward Bramley and the M18. With a population of around ten thousand counting the immediate surrounding area, it has its own dining culture built around the village strip - the cluster of restaurants, bars and independent food places along Bawtry Road that draws in trade from across the wider Rotherham borough.

The village has St Alban's Church at its old centre, the cricket club and village green, Wickersley Tarn and Wickersley Wood on the eastern edge, and Morthen Road climbing south toward the rural villages. It is a settled, prosperous part of the Rotherham district that has always supported its own evening dining trade, and that trade traditionally extended to a takeaway Thai option in the village.

With Northern Thai no longer trading, Wickersley does not currently have a dedicated specialist Thai restaurant of its own. Diners looking for the kind of cooking where the pastes come from Thailand and the chef has cooked the food for over a decade now most commonly drive either south into Rotherham town centre or north toward Doncaster. Twenty-two minutes on the M18 is what most of our Wickersley guests reckon on for an evening here, and the run home in the late evening is faster still.

5. Booking and Visiting

Booking, parking and arriving

The intimate five table dining room at Charm Thai Cafe Doncaster

We are open Monday and Wednesday through to Saturday, twelve noon until nine in the evening, with kitchen orders typically taken up until around eight-forty. Tuesdays and Sundays we are closed. The five tables mean Friday and Saturday evenings tend to fill up by mid-week - book a day or two ahead if either night matters to you. Midweek you can usually book the same day, and walk-ins are often possible if you call ahead from the M18.

Book a table online via our booking system or phone 01302 210408 directly. The phone is the better route if you want to confirm spice levels or dietary requirements - Rin or one of the team will pick up and confirm in the same call.

Parking is closest at the Trafford Way multi-storey, two minutes walk from us. The Wool Market car park sits a similar distance away. Street parking on the roads around Copley Road is free after 6pm when restrictions lift. For diners coming in for a Friday or Saturday evening, parking once and walking is the easy approach.

6. Delivery

What about delivery to Wickersley?

Wickersley is outside our standard delivery footprint. Our regular delivery range tops out at around eight miles from Copley Road - hot Thai cooking does not always travel well past that point. Wickersley sits closer to eleven miles which is past where the food would arrive at its best. We do not run a routine Wickersley delivery service.

If you phone early in the day and we are not stretched, we can occasionally arrange a delivery to Wickersley - phone 01302 210408 and ask. Honest answer either way. For most of our Wickersley guests, the dining-in side is the natural fit anyway since the M18 makes the drive in straightforward.

7. Frequently Asked

Wickersley to Charm Thai, Answered

How far is Charm Thai Cafe from Wickersley?
Around eleven miles north. The route runs up the M18 from junction 1 to junction 4, then a few minutes through into Doncaster town centre via the A630. The drive takes twenty-two to twenty-eight minutes depending on time of day. Trafford Way multi-storey is the closest car park, two minutes walk from us on Copley Road.
Where is the closest specialist Thai restaurant to Wickersley?
Since Northern Thai in Wickersley closed, the nearest options are Rotherham town centre, ourselves in Doncaster, or Mai Thai in Mexborough. Distance-wise Rotherham centre is closest from Wickersley. For the kind of specialist dine-in Thai cooking where the chef has cooked the food for over a decade, most diners we see have driven in from Wickersley specifically for that reason.
Do you deliver Thai food to Wickersley?
Wickersley sits at around eleven miles which is outside our standard delivery footprint of eight miles. We do not run a routine Wickersley delivery service. If you phone early in the day and we have a quiet evening, occasionally we can arrange it - phone 01302 210408 and ask. The eating-in side is what this restaurant is built around for guests at that distance.
Is it worth the drive from Wickersley?
That is the diner's call. We are a five-table specialist Thai restaurant where Rin cooks every dish to order, the curry pastes come direct from Thailand, and there is no service charge or corkage on a bottle you bring. A growing number of our Friday and Saturday tables turn out to be Wickersley regulars who have made the M18 a habit. The drive home at ten o'clock is quicker than the drive in.
Can I bring my own wine if I drive in from Wickersley?
Yes. Our BYO no corkage policy applies to all guests. We provide wine glasses, beer glasses and an ice bucket if needed. There is no service charge added to the bill either, so the saving on a typical restaurant wine markup comes straight off your total. Driving means a designated driver applies the usual way - we are happy to recommend soft drinks for the driver.
Is parking easy in Doncaster town centre?
Yes. Trafford Way multi-storey is the closest, two minutes walk from Copley Road. The Wool Market car park sits a similar distance away. Street parking on the surrounding roads is free after 6pm when restrictions lift. For an evening visit, parking once and walking back at the end of the meal is the easiest approach. Most of our regulars from outside Doncaster park at Trafford Way.
