Barnby Dun and Kirk Sandall make up a single civil parish in the north east of the Doncaster borough, and we cover both. Barnby Dun village sits on the north side of the parish, along the old Great North Road and the River Don, while Kirk Sandall is the larger settlement to the south, built around the Pilkington glassworks garden village in the early twentieth century. Together they are around five miles north east of our kitchen on Copley Road.

The drive from us takes around 12 to 15 minutes - out through Edenthorpe and up the Thorne Road, or across to Barnby Dun Road depending on which part of the parish you are in. Whether the order is from the streets around King George Square and Pilkington Road in Kirk Sandall, the houses near St Peter's Church in Barnby Dun village, or the homes near the railway station and the canal, we cover the whole patch. Barnby Dun is an ancient settlement on the River Don, with a history stretching back to the Domesday Book. The village sits on the north side of the parish, with St Peter's Church as its historic centrepiece. It is a quieter, more rural village in character compared to its southern neighbour.

Kirk Sandall, to the south, grew as a planned industrial village in the early twentieth century, developed by Pilkington Brothers to house glassworks employees. The layout of short streets and grassed squares is distinctive, and the railway station makes it well-connected to Doncaster. The New Junction Canal passes nearby, and the whole area is flat, open South Yorkshire landscape.
