1. Getting Here

How to get to us from Wath upon Dearne

Wath upon Dearne sits about ten miles west of our kitchen on Copley Road. The clean route in is the A6195 across to the A630, then east through Mexborough and Conisbrough into Doncaster town centre. The drive takes around twenty-two to twenty-six minutes depending on time of day. Trafford Way multi-storey is the closest car park to us, two minutes walk from Copley Road.

From the streets around the Wath town centre and Sandygate, from the Manvers Way business district and Onyx Retail Park area, or from the residential roads along Manvers Lake and the A6195 corridor, the route in lines up the same way - across to the A630 then east. People setting off from Brampton Bierlow on the Wath edge or from the streets near Old Moor Wetland Centre tend to take the same route. Once on the A630 it is a clean dual-carriageway run almost to our door.

Mexborough and Conisbrough both sit between Wath and Doncaster - the route passes both town centres. For anyone in Wath who has visited Mexborough's dining options or driven through Conisbrough for the castle, the road in is already familiar.

2. About the Restaurant

Rin's Manvers years - the Thai Garden Cafe heritage

Rin spent over ten years cooking Thai food at Thai Garden Cafe in Manvers before opening Charm Thai Cafe in Doncaster in 2024. That decade at the Onyx Retail Park kitchen built the regular trade that, by reputation, became one of the more established Thai operations in the Dearne Valley. The food was good and the customer relationships were real.

Thai Garden Cafe has since closed. With it, Manvers itself no longer has a specialist Thai restaurant of its own. Many of the diners who knew Rin's cooking from those years have followed her across to Doncaster - not because we marketed to them, but because they searched for her name and found us. Some come once a month, some come weekly. They tend to know what they like to order without needing the menu.

If you knew Thai Garden Cafe in Manvers from any of those years, you know how Rin cooks. The pastes are the same imported Thai brands she used there. The technique is the same - taste and adjust in the wok, every dish built to order. The difference now is the room. Charm Thai is five tables in a single small dining room on Copley Road in Doncaster, where the focus is the eating-in experience.

If you did not know Thai Garden Cafe, none of that matters either. Charm Thai stands on its own as a specialist Thai restaurant in central Doncaster - five tables, BYO no corkage, no service charge added to the bill, every dish cooked to order. The Manvers heritage is context for the regulars, not a claim about anyone else's cooking.

4. About the Town

About Wath upon Dearne, Manvers and the Dearne Valley

Wath upon Dearne sits in the Dearne Valley, the historic mining and industrial corridor of South Yorkshire that runs from Barnsley across to Rotherham. With a population of around twelve thousand counting Manvers and Brampton Bierlow, it is part of a larger linked dining catchment that includes the wider Wath, Manvers Lake business district, Wath West and the Brampton edge.

The town has its old centre around Sandygate and Church Street, the Wath Festival heritage, and the Wath Music Festival which still runs each year. Manvers itself has been substantially redeveloped over the last two decades into a business district with the Onyx Retail Park - the same retail park where Thai Garden Cafe operated for over a decade. Old Moor Wetland Centre, the RSPB reserve on Old Moor Road, sits a few minutes north and pulls steady visitor traffic into the area.

The dining scene reflects the Dearne Valley's mix - the retail park food courts at Manvers and Cortonwood, independent restaurants in the centre of Wath, and the pubs spread across the surrounding villages. For specialist Thai, the local option was Thai Garden Cafe at Manvers from the early 2010s until its closure. Diners who valued that cooking have largely shifted their routine over to Doncaster, where Rin is now back at the kitchen.

We are open Monday and Wednesday through Saturday, twelve noon until nine in the evening, with the kitchen typically taking last orders around eight-forty. Tuesdays and Sundays we are closed. Friday and Saturday evenings are our busiest sittings, and the five tables fill up - book a day or two ahead for either night. Midweek bookings are usually fine the same day. Walk-ins midweek are often possible.

Book a table online or phone 01302 210408. The phone tends to be quicker for confirming spice levels, dietary needs and timing - Rin or one of the team will pick up. If you know Rin from Thai Garden Cafe days, mention it on the call - she will recognise the name.

Parking is straightforward in central Doncaster. Trafford Way multi-storey sits two minutes walk from us. The Wool Market car park is similar distance. Street parking on the surrounding roads is free after 6pm. Most of our Wath and Manvers regulars park at Trafford Way and walk in - the route from the car park to the door is a short flat walk past the Wool Market.

6. Delivery

What about delivery to Wath upon Dearne?

Wath upon Dearne sits at around ten miles which is outside our standard delivery range. Our delivery footprint tops out at eight miles from Copley Road because hot Thai cooking does not arrive at its best beyond that point. We do not run a routine delivery to the Dearne Valley.

If you phone early in the day and we have a quieter evening, we can occasionally arrange it - 01302 210408 and ask. Honest answer either way. For Wath and Manvers diners, the dining-in side is what the restaurant is built around at this distance, and the A630 makes the drive in straightforward.

The cooking technique is the same and most of the core dishes will look familiar. The six curries, the kra pao stir fries with the same crispy belly pork option, the noodle and soup section. Rin's signature dark noodle soup is now on the menu here too. The menu has grown in some sections and the room is smaller, but the cooking carries through.
